Callidus Health and Safety is proud to announce that Andrew Carey, studying at Leeds Beckett University, has won the ‘Placement Student of the Year’ award for his placement at our Leeds Office.
Andrew is currently studying for a BSc in Computing, and from 1st September 2015 until 24th August 2016 undertook a work placement at Callidus.
His initial project was to develop an intranet for staff to be able to access company documents, book holidays and complete sick forms replacing the file-based system we used before. This was followed by the development of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system which allows staff to log opportunities for the business and record client details.
Andrew was then seconded to Riley Software Ltd where he worked alongside their development team and assisted in the ongoing development of Simple Compliance, an online health and safety compliance management system.
Up against 40 other BSc Computing students, Andrew won the ‘Placement Student of the Year’ award. He has since moved into his final year, and is using the skills he learnt with us to assist in his final project:
“I’ve decided to use the technology I have learnt and become familiar with during my placement at Callidus Health & Safety and Riley Software (Python/Django) to create a platform that connects employers with potential employees to cover shifts at businesses such as bars and restaurants.”
Andrew continues to work for Riley Software Ltd part-time, alongside his studies, to further develop his skills. We wish him all the best for the future.
